Opening the Door to Freedom
In mediation practice, we can often end up paying more attention to 'what' we are practicing, rather than 'how' we are practicing - and thereby remain bound up to varying degrees by forces of pushing, reactivity and control. Paying attention to our attitude and orientation, can open us to the liberating freedom available right now. And when our practice is intimate and alive in this way, unexpected doors may open. Throughout the day we will engage in Insight practices, with the emphasis on exploring 'how' we are relating to our experience in any moment. We will use sitting, standing, walking and lying down (for those that wish) postures*, as supports for finding a kind and skilful balance. The day will include guidance, teaching reflections and discussions, and is suitable for all levels of experience. *If you would like to practice lying down mediation, you may wish to bring something comfortable to lie on. Gavin has been practising Insight Meditation since 2004, including extended periods of retreat in Asia and the USA. He is currently training to be a Dharma Teacher under the guidance of Yanai Postelnik, and is particularly interested in exploring practice wherever we find ourselves - everything from family life to responding to the wider issues of our era. |
